Next generation of the Lima family, owners of Grupo 3corações, one of Brazil’s largest coffee groups.

The business began in 1959 when João Alves de Lima started selling green coffee in São Miguel, Rio Grande do Norte. In 1984 he handed the running of the company to his children Pedro, Paulo and Vicente Lima.

In 2005 the family holding company São Miguel entered a joint venture with the Israeli group Strauss, bringing together the Santa Clara and 3 Corações brands. The shareholders’ agreement was renewed in 2022. By 2016 the group had become the second largest supplier of instant coffee in Brazil.

She brings the view from inside a family business in transition, and from a market where family ownership carries a different set of expectations to Europe.

The conversations we are exploring

This year's theme sets the throughline for the day. These are the threads we are shaping the sessions around.

From Ownership to Stewardship

Moving from simply inheriting shares to actively stewarding the business and the family name. The owner skills that nobody is formally taught.

Legacy Transitions

How leadership and ownership pass to the next generation without fracturing the family. A family process first and a business decision second.

The Art of Good Governance

The boards, family councils and clear rules that let a growing family business decide cleanly and stop disagreements turning into family rifts.

From Vision to Value

The family office and wealth side. Investing and protecting family capital alongside and after the operating business, especially once a company is sold.

The Next Generation in the Chair

Who runs the business once the founder steps back. How the next generation earns its place and brings change while respecting what came before.

Tradition in the Age of AI

Adopting AI as it advances faster than ever, without losing the traditions the business was built on. The negotiation between a digital-native next generation and the proven old ways.
